After 21 years of operating LuLu’s, we have closed the restaurant on February 9th.

The restaurant business is intensive, and to be honest, after 22 years, I’m a bit worn. While LuLu’s is still a profitable operation, it’s not fair to our customers or staff to operate the restaurant on cruise control.

Since we still own the LuLu’s space, we searched for a Chef that we could lease to. One who would build a concept that would be a great addition to downtown Evanston. This was important to us as we wanted a unique and independent operation, not another chain restaurant.

We located someone, Brian Huston, an Evanston native, has been the Chef at The Publican in Chicago, one of my personal favorite restaurants, and John Kim, who operates the Evanston Brothers K coffee shops. Together they will renovate and reopen the space as Boltwood, a farm to table concept.

It will be a very exciting concept which will serve the area well, and I encourage everyone to see what they develop and bring to market this coming spring.

Many of you know we also owned Taco Diablo, which was burned out by the PineYard fire. We will rebuild Taco D and we may then update and rebuild LuLu’s at the same time.

Thank you everyone who has patronized and supported LuLu’s for the past 22 years. We truly and deeply appreciate that support. We have always tried to be good corporate citizens, and hopefully, we helped provide support to the different organizations so many of you are involved with.

This is a very bittersweet announcement, but we believe change is a positive thing. Not only do we embrace it, we are instigating it.
